Louisville Police Fire Brett Hankison, Officer in Breonna Taylor Shooting

The police in Louisville, Ky., fired an officer involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor, according to a letter posted on Tuesday on the department’s Twitter account.

The letter by Chief Robert Schroeder accuses the former officer, Brett Hankison, of violating the department’s policy on the use of deadly force, saying he “wantonly and blindly” fired 10 shots into Ms. Taylor’s apartment on March 13.

Ms. Taylor’s death fueled weeks of protests in Louisville and led Mayor Greg Fischer to ban the use of no-knock warrants. Mr. Hankison and two other officers involved have not been charged with a crime.

Chief Schroeder wrote that Mr. Hankison’s conduct was “a shock to the conscience” and said his actions have discredited the Police Department.
